Auntie L's
Travels

Auntie L had a whole box full of postcards
and photos of her travels around the world during the
1920's. They had been glued into albums at some point
(many have patches of black paper stuck to edges on the back).
For some reason, the postcards were removed from their
albums and stored in a cardboard box instead. Having
travelled to Europe, I can relate to many of the images
now and I am not surprised that I developed a strong interest
in travel. Auntie L's postcards show many exotic
places and people which were totally alien to someone growing
up in Australia in the early 60's and so far removed from
European culture other than in my immediate family.
I am in the process of scanning the
postcards/photos to add here and they will take some time to
do. They are purely a visual
record and unfortunately are not written on the
back so working out exactly where each place is will be
largely guesswork. The unidentified images will be placed
together roughly in 'country' categories as well as can be
identified. If anyone recognises the place (town and/or
country) of any image incorrectly labelled or categorised, do
let me know so I can amend the mistaken identity.
Switzerland, France, Egypt and Africa
feature the most and they will be the four categories I will
start with. Looking at all the photos of Egypt, it is no wonder
I had such a fascination with Egypt from a very young age!
